New York same-sex couple gets married!

Bonded by a love of theater, great food, and television shows like “The Walking Dead,” Graham and Robert are such a fabulous couple!  I had a great time photographing their wedding at the Edgewood Country Club.

Believe it or not, Graham and Robert actually first met on Facebook through an “Are You Interested” app–basically a pseudo “Hot or Not” styled page where you flip through images of people within a similar age group and location and based on your particular preference, select yes or no.  Clearly, the two both clicked yes!  Two weeks of correspondence and they had their first real date at the Arte Around the Corner in the Upper West Side.  It didn’t take long for the two of them to discover that they were meant to be together.

Here are some images from their special day:

What I loved most about Robert and Graham’s wedding was how personal they made it. It was very important to do the ceremony in the round so that everyone could see. They faced different ways throughout the ceremony so no one had to look at their back the entire time. They also wanted to feel like they were surrounded by their friends and family. Other special elements included R&G’s parents reading things they wrote about each of them and the relationship that blossomed between R&G, incorporating their old, new, borrowed and blue into the chuppah, and friends performing songs and readings. Their own spin on the jewish tradition of giving a dowry; each of their friends in the wedding party gave something to the other spouse. Robert’s best friend gave Graham the movie they would watch every Friday night in college, Graham’s friend gave Robert their secret handshake.

A banana!??!! Robert proposed to Graham after Robert ran the marathon in 2011. Their friend was late bringing the ring, so when Robert got down on one knee at the finish line to propose to Graham, he held out his hands forgetting there was a banana in it. Graham said yes and took the banana. The friend showed up with the ring later on but the banana will forever be a token of their love.

Check out some more fab moments from Robert and Graham’s wedding day.
