You’re always so enthusiastic about your work!  When did you realize that event planning was your calling?  What is it that you love most about it?

I decided to leave show business and starting working in the event planning industry in January of 2005.

I love creating new and beautiful things in new and different venues.  I find inspiration everywhere.  New York City is one of the most inspirational places to be.  You can find inspiration in everyday places like restaurants, parks, and architecture. The best part of what I do is the client’s reaction after the event.  The amazing emails and reviews I receive from my clients have been the most rewarding part of my job.

How did Curtain Up Events come into fruition and is there a special history behind its name?

I started my company out of my apartment living in NYC.  We now have an office in the flower district.  Another incredible place to draw inspiration from every day.

I wanted to create an event planning company that tied in with my theater background.  I have access to a lot of theater vendors that are not normally available in the event planning industry.

If a wedding couple were interested in enlisting your help, what could you offer them?

We offer Full Service Event Coordination and Design services.  We also offer partial planning and “month of”packages.

Also, I hear so often, “my venue has a planner on site”.  Yes, they plan within your venue.  A Full Service Coordinator, like myself will assist in so many additional areas that aren’t included in a venue package.  We help with room blocks, transportation, fittings, arranging after parties and post wedding brunches.  The list goes on and on.  We love working with on-site planners.  We make a great team!!

Full Service Planning is one of my favorite things.  We love starting from the very beginning with the client.  Helping to choose the venue and recommending vendors that we know are reliable and will give you the best service on the day of your event.

Is there anything in particular that you’d say clients should consider before getting started with planning their event with you?

Keep a realistic budget in mind.  Know what’s included in the service.   Read contracts and the service breakdown we provide.  This way, if something is missing that you feel you need, we can accommodate.

What would you say distinguishes you as an event planner?

I can’t tell you how many times I hear, “you are the nicest planner!”.  I’m always surprised by this statement.  We get to know all of our clients on a personal level.  When planning a wedding, emotions really come into play.  This is important to keep in mind.  No matter what type of event we’re planning we have never found the need to yell at a vendor or anyone else for that matter.  There is no reason to be anything but nice and professional.
