New York event planner Tammy Golson, Elizabeth Anne Designs and a retro orange school theme

New York event planner, Tammy Golson, does events with style and grace. She also was a chef and makes really yummy food. I met her on twitter only to realize I photographed some flowers she helped Lindsay Landman with. Tammy was blogging about that event when I asked her to coffee. So funny how the world goes round. Needless to say, I was really excited when Tammy called me to photograph details for this school inspired brunch she was having at her friend’s New York City rooftop.

The concept and details for this brunch are out of this world. So awesome that Tammy submitted them to Ami of Elizabeth Anne Designs and Cyd of The Sweetest Occasion who co-hosted a contest inspiring creative professionals. They wanted pros to come up with original ideas and inspiration for weddings and events. Wondering how you can help Me, Tammy and the rest of the team win this contest?

Sephora trip with NY make-up artist, Anni Bruno

Anni Bruno is a fantastic make-up artist in New York City. Anni used to be an actress and we realized we actually had the same headshot photographer, Deborah Lopez. As coincidences go, she also lives a block from where my hubby used to live in Brooklyn. Anni does make-up for a lot of headshot photographers and fashion photographers in the city. She has expanded into doing weddings and making brides look natural and gorgeous too.

Last week, I called up Anni and asked her to take me make-up shopping. We had a fun time and I have to say I love what she gave me. We tried all kinds of different primers, foundations, shadows etc. She really took the time to listen to all of my concerns. We also walked around talking about the differences between each type of make-up. Things like how to tell a good shadow from a cheap one, what mascara is better for certain looks etc.

We have a few shoots planned this year and I am super excited to work with her more. Plan on seeing her work on the blog. We only grabbed a few photos before we were stopped at Sephora. Apparently, you can’t take photos in there.

Random New York

Back in January, I made a decision to go out at least 2x a month and just photograph whatever I felt like. Well, I did it that one day and have not done it since. So, now I am deciding to go out again today and just take photos. Observe, watch, feel the world around me. The hardest thing about doing that is not judging yourself. Allowing yourself to just take whatever photo you feel like because at that moment something triggered you to capture it. I want to challenge myself to not just shoot weddings and events but other things that inspire me too. Whether anyone will like it or not. So here is my first series of random images from that cool day in January.

Musician photos- Tim McGlone and the Turn

A few weeks ago, I went to the National Underground and photographed Tim McGlone and the Turn. I met Tim a few years ago and was really excited to come hear them play and capture some cool pics of them performing. The National Underground is a very small club/bar in the East Village. Downstairs in the basement is a small room with a bar and a stage area with two stage lights. A really bright pink one which illuminates the singer and pretty much nothing else and a red one that lit stage right. The poor keyboardist was jammed behind a post in the dark. It was a typical tiny bar in the village where good and not so good bands play. It was definitely fun and I hope to get to do more of these types of photos. Ultimately, I’d like to follow a band from practice, load in, backstage, performance, studio and everything in between. I really love capturing the whole story and getting to know my subjects. Enjoy!

HelpUsAdopt.org with Trish McEvoy

At the beginning of May, I was in New York at Trish McEvoy’s exclusive studio. I was there photographing a fabulous intimate event for HelpusAdopt.org. HelpusAdopt gives grants to couples that are trying to adopt. Adoption in this country is extremely expensive and cost- prohibitive to many; so this organization is trying to change all of this, one family at a time. The founder, Becky Fawcett, has a very delightful and candid blog called An Infertile Blonde. Make sure you check it out.

Trish and her team of make-up artists gave a make-up demonstration and one-on-one advice to the women who attended. It was interesting to see a quick and clean way to put on make-up that can transition from day to night. The women had a ton of fun and Trish was a riot.
